A 17-year-old student has been charged in connection with a shooting at Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas, Texas, that left four male students injured. Authorities believe the suspect, identified as Tracy Haynes Jr., was targeting a specific student during the incident.​
The shooting occurred on April 15, 2025, shortly after 1 p.m. Surveillance footage shows Haynes entering the school through a locked side door that was opened by another student. Once inside, he proceeded down a hallway, opened fire on a group of students, and then approached a student who was unable to flee, allegedly firing at close range.​
Dallas Independent School District Police Chief Albert Martinez stated that the suspect appeared to be targeting a specific individual, although the exact motive remains under investigation. Authorities are also examining the involvement of the student who allowed Haynes into the building to determine if criminal charges are warranted.​
Following the shooting, Haynes fled the scene and was apprehended several hours later. He is currently held on a charge of aggravated assault mass shooting, with bond set at $600,000.​
All four injured students were hospitalized and are expected to recover fully. A fifth student was treated for anxiety-related symptoms following the incident.
