In a recent statement, President Donald Trump called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to cease hostilities in Ukraine and sign a peace agreement. He also indicated that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky might be willing to make concessions regarding Crimea to achieve peace.
“I want him to stop shooting, sit down, and sign a deal,” Trump said, emphasizing the urgency of ending the conflict. He expressed disappointment over recent missile strikes on Kyiv and stressed that Putin should demonstrate a commitment to peace.
When asked about Zelensky’s stance on Crimea, Trump responded, “I think so,” suggesting that the Ukrainian leader might be prepared to cede the territory for the sake of peace. He added, “Crimea was taken 12 years ago during the Obama administration without a shot being fired. So don’t talk to me about Crimea; talk to Obama and Biden.”
Trump also reflected on his recent meeting with Zelensky at the Vatican, noting a change in the Ukrainian president’s demeanor. “I see that he’s calmer. I think he understands the situation and wants to make a deal,” Trump said.
The President concluded by stating that the coming days would reveal whether a peace agreement is attainable: “Next week will show whether we can reach a deal.”
