A woman in Greece has filed for divorce after an artificial intelligence tool allegedly “predicted” her husband’s infidelity, according to reports by ANT1 TV.
The woman claimed she used a neural network to analyze photographs of coffee grounds left at the bottom of her cup — a modern twist on the traditional practice of tasseography, or fortune-telling through coffee residue patterns. According to her, the AI system indicated that her husband was romantically involved with a younger woman whose name started with the letter “E” and warned of a potential family breakdown.
Taking the AI-generated prediction seriously, the woman immediately expelled her husband from their home and initiated divorce proceedings. She also informed their children about the impending separation, citing the AI’s forecast as the reason.
The accused husband has strongly denied any allegations of infidelity. “She got carried away by the idea of fortune-telling through AI,” he told local media. “She asked me to take pictures of the coffee cups, and then suddenly accused me of cheating and filed for divorce.”
The man is now seeking custody of their children. His lawyer, Phoebus Smrungris, emphasized that the case highlights the potential dangers of relying on unverified AI-generated information in serious personal matters. “Their future should not depend on such interpretations,” Smrungris stated.
