Clashes Erupt in Syria’s Kanaker Between Druze and Armed Groups

The Lebanese network Al-Mayadeen, affiliated with Hezbollah, reported clashes in the village of Kanaker in western As-Suwayda, Syria, between local Druze residents and unidentified armed groups.

According to the report, the Druze inhabitants successfully repelled an attempted assault on the village.

These incidents are part of a broader pattern of escalating violence in southern Syria, where Druze communities have increasingly been targeted by armed factions. Recent reports indicate that over 40 individuals were killed in Suwayda, with additional fatalities in nearby areas such as Sahnaya.

In response to the rising violence, Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, a prominent Druze spiritual leader, has called for international protection for the Druze community, citing state-backed sectarian attacks and a breakdown of trust in the government.
