American rapper and producer Sean Combs, better known as P. Diddy, is at the center of one of the most high-profile criminal cases in the history of the U.S. music industry. On May 5, a federal court in Brooklyn will begin hearings in a case that could result in a life sentence. Combs is currently being held in custody awaiting trial.
He is accused of operating a criminal enterprise involving sexual exploitation, human trafficking, forced prostitution, narcotics distribution, and racketeering. According to investigators, for decades Combs organized private parties known as “Freak Offs,” where alleged victims claim they were subjected to abuse and coercion under the influence of drugs.
The case gained momentum after statements from singer Cassie Ventura, Combs’ former partner. Although her civil lawsuit was settled privately, her testimony prompted a broader criminal investigation. To date, over 120 civil lawsuits have been filed against Combs, covering incidents from the 1990s through 2023. Plaintiffs include both women and men, some of whom were minors at the time of the alleged offenses.
Combs and his legal team maintain his innocence. He has declined a plea deal and intends to fight all charges in court. The rapper insists that all interactions at the parties were consensual.
If found guilty on the main charges, Sean Combs could face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
