A truck transporting approximately $800,000 in loose change overturned on a highway near Dallas, Texas, on Thursday morning, temporarily shutting down traffic and prompting an extensive cleanup operation, according to local officials.
The vehicle, contracted to carry coin currency for a Federal Reserve facility, lost control and flipped onto its side, spilling thousands of coins across multiple lanes. Emergency services arrived on the scene shortly after the crash. No injuries were reported. Cleanup crews used shovels, brooms, and industrial containers to recover the scattered currency.
Footage shared by local media showed workers filling large bins with coins from the roadway. A spokesperson for the transportation company confirmed the shipment’s value and said all recovered coins would be counted, verified, and re-routed to their original destination.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
