Israel Says It Seeks No Conflict with Turkey — But Won’t Accept Its Presence on Border

As Israel intensifies its airstrikes on a key military site in Syria — reportedly eyed by Turkey as a potential base — a senior Israeli official clarified the country’s position regarding Ankara’s regional ambitions.

“We are not looking for a conflict with Turkey. And we hope they are not looking for one with us,” the official told reporters on condition of anonymity.

At the same time, the official emphasized that Israel would not tolerate Turkish military presence near its borders. “We do not want to see Turkey establishing itself on our borders,” the official said, referencing reports that Ankara seeks to develop military, naval, and air installations in Syrian territory close to Israel.

“We want to prevent the establishment of military bases — whether naval or air — under Turkish protection,” the official added.

The remarks come amid heightened tensions and strategic maneuvering across the region, with multiple actors vying for influence in post-war Syria.
