Bucharest Mayor Nicușor Dan has won Romania’s presidential runoff election, defeating far-right candidate George Simion in the second round held on Sunday. With 99% of votes counted, Dan holds a decisive lead, confirming his victory over Simion, who had come out on top in the first round earlier this month.
Dan, a pro-European centrist, celebrated the results and emphasized that coalition talks to form a new government are expected to continue for several weeks. He stated that the upcoming coalition will likely include all four parliamentary parties from both the center-right and center-left blocs.
