A federal judge in Boston has issued a temporary injunction against the Trump administration’s decision to bar foreign students from studying at Harvard University. The ruling comes in response to a legal petition filed by the university.
The controversial move by the administration sought to restrict student visa holders from attending institutions like Harvard if their coursework was conducted entirely online. Harvard, in turn, argued that such a policy was discriminatory, disruptive, and threatened the academic future of thousands of international students.
Judge Allison Burroughs temporarily halted the implementation of the decision, citing the need for further examination of its legal and constitutional implications. A follow-up hearing has been scheduled for July 21, where the judge will consider whether to extend the temporary order until a final verdict is reached.
The case has drawn national and international attention, highlighting the broader tensions between U.S. immigration policy and the rights of foreign students amid an increasingly digitized academic landscape.
