The city of Naples is marking its 2,500th anniversary in 2025 with a series of high-profile cultural celebrations that highlight its deep historical roots and vibrant identity. Over 2,500 events are planned throughout the year, ranging from exhibitions and concerts to theatrical performances, historical reenactments, and international conferences.
One of the standout moments of the celebrations was the unveiling of a special edition football kit by SSC Napoli, honoring the mythical siren Parthenope, the legendary symbol of the city’s founding. The design blends classical imagery with modern aesthetics, paying tribute to Naples’ ancient origins.
In addition to cultural festivities, the city also announced it will host the 38th edition of the America’s Cup in 2027. The prestigious sailing competition will take place in the waters between Castel dell’Ovo and Positano, with team bases to be constructed in the Bagnoli district, an area undergoing redevelopment into a maritime and tourism hub.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni welcomed the announcement, stating that Naples’ selection as the host city demonstrates international recognition of its cultural and economic importance. She emphasized the long-term benefits the event will bring to southern Italy.
The 2,500th anniversary celebrations continue to draw visitors from around the world, offering a rare opportunity to experience the city’s living history in a year of unprecedented festivities.
