UAE records highest May temperature ever at 50.4°C in Abu Dhabi

On May 23, 2025, the United Arab Emirates experienced its highest recorded temperature for the month of May, reaching a scorching 50.4°C (122.7°F) in Al Shawamekh, Abu Dhabi. This surpasses the previous May record of 50.2°C set in 2009.

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) reported that the temperature was recorded at 2:30 PM local time. This new record highlights the increasing frequency of extreme heat events in the region.

In response to the extreme heat, the NCM has issued public health advisories, urging residents to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses.

The UAE’s climate is characterized by extremely hot summers, with temperatures regularly exceeding 38°C (100.4°F). However, the recent record-breaking temperature underscores the impact of climate change and the need for increased awareness and preparedness for extreme weather conditions.
