Rare Photos Offer Unprecedented View of China’s Next-Gen J‑36 Jet

For the first time, clear close-up images of China’s enigmatic J‑36 sixth-generation stealth aircraft have surfaced online, offering unmatched detail on the trijet’s cockpit, weapons bays, and overall layout, analysts report.

Published widely June 6–7, the imagery—sourced from Chinese internet and shared on platforms like X—features a front-on view of the aircraft parked on the flightline. It shows a side-by-side cockpit under an expansive bubble canopy, a large central weapons bay flanked by two smaller bays, and a dorsal engine inlet with diverterless supersonic inlet design.

Military aviation site The War Zone described the shots as “our best view yet of China’s J‑36,” highlighting details like electro‑optical sensor windows on the nose and multiple weapons bay openings—key design features.

The Aviationist similarly noted the side-by-side seating configuration and armament layout visible in the photos.

The J‑36, believed to be a trijet flying-wing design, was first seen taking its maiden flight on December 26, 2024. Its size and configuration suggest a multifaceted role—ranging from tactical strike capability to possible regional bomber functions.

Analysts caution imagery authenticity may vary, but there is no evidence of clear manipulation. The aircraft was photographed at a Chengdu Aircraft Corporation test facility, identifiable by hangars and support infrastructure visible in the background.
