Zelensky: “World Must Respond” After Russia’s Largest Night Strike This Month

Ukrainian officials report that Moscow-launched drone and missile waves pummeled Kyiv and Odesa during the night of June 9–10, part of a broader “massive” bombardment also striking Dnipro and Chernihiv. President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted swiftly, urging decisive support from the U.S. and Europe to compel Russia toward peace.

Attack Details

Scale: The Ukrainian Air Force reported the launch of at least 315 drones and seven missiles targeting Kyiv, with 284 drones intercepted overnight. A similar onslaught hit Odesa—including use of ballistic missiles and Shahed-type drones—causing widespread damage.

Impacts in Kyiv: Fierce explosions thundered across the city for over five hours, triggering air raid alerts and fires in several districts. Emergency responders recorded structural damage, vehicle fires, and at least four injuries.

Odesa strike: Local authorities reported a maternity hospital hit and an emergency medical facility damaged. At least two fatalities and nine injuries were reported in the region.

Zelensky’s Response

President Zelensky described the assault as one of the largest yet and a direct attempt to “drown out” global efforts toward peace. He emphasized the need for more than words: “It is vital that the response … is not silence from the world, but concrete action,” adding that the U.S. and Europe must apply “strong pressure for the sake of peace”.

The barrage marked one of the most intense overnight drone-and-missile campaigns of the war, following earlier waves involving nearly 500 drones.

Ukrainian air defenses remain effective: in past nights, Air Force sources reported intercepting dozens of drones, missiles, and even guided bombs.
