Trump Says He’s No Longer Confident in Iran Nuclear Deal Talks

On June 11, 2025, during an interview on the Pod Force One podcast by the New York Post, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he is now “less confident” about the possibility of reaching a deal with Iran over its nuclear program. Trump had previously expressed optimism about the negotiations but now says the situation has changed.

“I’m still open to negotiations. We’re still talking. But they [the Iranians] are stalling. And I’m no longer confident we can reach a deal,” Trump said during the podcast.

According to Trump, Iran is showing less willingness to engage in talks than it did earlier. He said this was unfortunate, as he still considers a diplomatic solution the preferred option. However, he emphasized that “Iran will not obtain nuclear weapons,” regardless of the outcome of the negotiations.

Trump confirmed that diplomatic backchannels remain active, with his special envoy Steve Witkoff in contact with Iranian officials. However, he noted that progress has been minimal so far.

Axios previously reported that in a recent phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump reiterated his desire to resolve the Iran issue through dialogue rather than military conflict. He also stated that military options would only be considered if diplomacy failed.

During the interview, Trump added that he expects to have clarity on the status of negotiations with Iran within the next two months.
