Israel and Iran Exchange Missile Strikes; Explosions Reported in Tel Aviv and Ramat Gan

A dramatic escalation has occurred in the Israel–Iran conflict as both nations traded missile strikes early Friday, resulting in reported explosions in Tel Aviv and Ramat Gan and exposing potential gaps in Israel’s air-defense network.

According to Israeli media and emergency responders, blasts were felt in central Israel, with nomadic warnings sounded across the region. Local authorities confirmed that the Iron Dome and Arrow systems intercepted many inbound missiles, though several penetrated, striking urban zones. Magen David Adom dispatched medical teams across the Gush-Dan metropolitan area, treating civilians for injuries ranging from light to moderate.

Targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader

The Israeli Defense Forces revealed they carried out a precision strike on the underground residence of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, per reporting by Clash. Within hours, Iran’s state news agency IRNA reported launching a second wave of ballistic missiles, triggering fresh sirens and further anti-air maneuvers in Israel.

Extent of Missile Exchange

The military stated that over 100 missiles were fired by Iran. The Clash outlet claims that roughly 50 were shot down, while the remainder reached targets in Tel Aviv and Ramat Gan, causing structural damage and sparking emergency responses. General hospitals have activated Mass Casualty Incident protocols.

Alleged Hostage Situation

Unverified reports from Clash alleged that Iran has taken an Israeli female pilot captive. No independent confirmation has been provided, and Israeli authorities have neither confirmed nor denied the claim.

Khamenei’s Response

Ayatollah Khamenei criticized the strike as a “huge and very serious mistake,” promising that “we will bring the Israeli regime to ruin.” State media described the Israeli action as an assault on national sovereignty.

US Reaction

President Trump, addressing the situation, confirmed the U.S. had been informed prior to the Israeli operation. He reiterated that “there is still time” for Iran to negotiate and warned of potentially “even more brutal” strikes if diplomacy fails. Secretary of State Rubio emphasized that the U.S. was not directly involved but underscored ongoing efforts to protect American personnel.

International Responses

Global leaders urged restraint. The United Nations, along with Europe and regional allies like Germany, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, called for immediate de-escalation. Russia condemned the Israeli strike as “unprovoked and unacceptable.”

Flight Disruptions and Market Impact

Emergency airspace closures were enacted over Israel, where Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport halted flights. Stocks and oil markets reacted sharply: Brent crude rose nearly 8%, while U.S. futures dropped over 1%, driven by fears of disruption through the Strait of Hormuz.

Looking Ahead

Israel has indicated that its offensive, dubbed “Operation Rising Lion,” will continue in phases until the Iranian threat is neutralized. Iran has vowed retaliation. As the U.S.–Iran nuclear negotiations in Oman have stalled, the region braces for potential further escalation.
