Elijah Blue Allman, 48, son of music legends Cher and Gregg Allman, was hospitalized after allegedly overdosing at his home in Landers, California, over the weekend. Authorities responding to erratic behavior discovered drugs on the premises, and Allman was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and People magazine reports.
Cher, 79, is reportedly “doing everything she can to help her son heal,” a source close to the family told People. The incident occurred amid a personal crisis: Allman and estranged wife Marieangela King are in the middle of divorce proceedings, and the musician has a long standing history of substance abuse challenges.
Marieangela released a statement pledging unwavering support: “Elijah has faced personal challenges, but one constant has been his unwavering commitment to sobriety and his loyalty to those he loves… He continues to confront his inner struggles … from a place of strength, not defeat”.
The San Bernardino Sheriff’s report confirms deputies arrived to find Allman being evaluated by paramedics, with illegal substances identified in his home. Though specific drugs were not disclosed, TMZ reported the overdose occurred early Saturday, and sources say Allman is “lucky to be alive”.
