The Government of Pakistan has formally nominated U.S. President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination recognizes his “decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership” during the recent India‑Pakistan military tensions.
According to Islamabad, Trump’s actions helped de-escalate the crisis, particularly when a ceasefire was secured following heightened hostilities in early May. The Pakistani government praised his “strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship,” asserting his engagement prevented a wider conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
Official statements on Pakistan’s platform X highlighted Trump’s offers to play a role in resolving the longstanding Kashmir dispute and acknowledged his contributions to regional and global stability, including reference to unrest in Gaza and tensions with Iran.
However, officials in India have denied Trump’s involvement, clarifying that the ceasefire was achieved through direct military dialogue requested by Pakistan and facilitated via existing channels.
Additionally, Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Asim Munir, who reportedly led the nomination, met Trump at the White House earlier this week. Observers describe the nomination as part of a strategic diplomatic move aimed at reinforcing Pakistan–U.S. ties.
The Nobel Peace Prize nomination period remains confidential, with submissions due by January 31, 2026.
