The Houthis in Yemen have declared the end of their ceasefire agreement with the United States, originally reached in May 2025. According to Reuters, the official announcement came after Washington had paused its airstrikes under a deal brokered by Oman and announced by U.S. President Donald Trump on May 6, 2025.
Under the ceasefire terms, the Houthis agreed to halt attacks on American vessels in the Red Sea, although they continued to target Israeli ships. A spokesperson for the group emphasized that “the ceasefire with the U.S. does not apply to Israel.”
After several weeks of relative calm, the Houthis announced they are resuming attacks on U.S. ships. They also promised “surprises” for their enemies and warned of new threats to regional security.
According to the Atlantic Council and other analysts, the end of the ceasefire signals that the U.S. air campaign in Yemen is far from over, and further escalation remains likely.
