Israel’s UN Ambassador Slams UN Chief: Thank Trump, Don’t Condemn the US

Israel’s UN Ambassador Slams UN Chief: “Thank Trump, Don’t Condemn the US”

Israel’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Danny Danon, issued a sharp rebuke to UN Secretary-General António Guterres following his statement condemning the recent U.S. airstrike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Speaking at the UN, Danon urged Guterres to thank U.S. President Donald Trump for his actions in making the world safer, rather than criticizing America for what he called “peace through strength.”

“Secretary-General Guterres, you should thank President Trump for taking decisive action and making the world a safer place,” Danon said. “Instead of condemning the United States for promoting peace through force, you should recognize that Washington filled the vacuum left by years of UN inaction that allowed Iran to accelerate its dangerous nuclear weapons program.”

According to Danon, it was the international community’s failure to act that enabled Iran to approach nuclear capability, posing a threat not only to Israel and the U.S., but to the entire free world. He emphasized that the U.S. strike aimed to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear arsenal and to stop the outbreak of a wider war in the Middle East.

Earlier, Guterres had expressed concern over the U.S. strike and called on all parties to exercise “restraint and dialogue.” This statement drew strong criticism from Jerusalem, where it was viewed as one-sided condemnation of America’s preventive efforts.

The Trump administration launched a series of coordinated strikes overnight on June 22 against Iran’s nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan using strategic aircraft and cruise missiles. Washington stated that the attacks were preemptive and intended to protect American and allied interests from what it described as an “imminent nuclear threat.”

Danon’s remarks reflect Israel’s broader diplomatic campaign in support of the United States and in response to global criticism. Israeli officials maintain that the true threat to peace stems from the regime in Tehran, which has consistently defied UN Security Council resolutions.
