Russia Launches Massive Attack on Kyiv: Destruction, Fires, and Dozens Injured – Photos

From the evening of July 3 through the morning of July 4, Russian forces launched a large-scale combined attack on Kyiv. The capital was targeted with Shahed drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles. As a result, widespread destruction, fires, and multiple civilian injuries have been reported.

Beginning in the evening, a significant number of drones were detected over Ukrainian territory. After 2:00 a.m., Russian troops launched several ballistic missiles at Kyiv, followed by cruise missiles. The drone assaults continued in parallel.

By 8:00 a.m., Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that 23 people had been injured, including 14 who were hospitalized. Others received medical treatment on-site. Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko added that a 10-year-old girl was among the wounded.

Air raid alerts remained in effect, with firefighting aircraft deployed over the capital. Emergency services were working across multiple districts to address the aftermath:

  • Solomianskyi District: A five-story residential building suffered partial destruction. A massive fire broke out on the roof of a seven-story building, covering an area of 2,000 square meters. Fires were also reported in a warehouse, a car repair facility, and a garage complex. Extensive damage was inflicted on civilian infrastructure.
  • Sviatoshynskyi District: A fire erupted in a 14-story residential building following a missile strike. Several vehicles caught fire, and multiple non-residential buildings are still ablaze.
  • Shevchenkivskyi District: An eight-story building under construction was struck by a drone, causing damage to the first floor.
  • Darnytskyi and Holosiivskyi Districts: Falling debris from enemy drones was recorded in multiple locations.

The number of casualties is still being clarified. Current reports confirm damage to residential buildings, educational institutions, as well as medical and transportation infrastructure throughout Kyiv.

Railway infrastructure in the city was also damaged. According to Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways), westbound passenger trains are now rerouted via Vyshneve and Darnytsia, causing delays of up to two hours. The Kyiv City Express is currently operating only on the northern semi-ring (Sviatoshyn – Pochaina – Darnytsia in both directions), with potential schedule deviations due to overlapping routes with long-distance trains. Emergency repairs are already underway.

Meanwhile, missile strikes also hit civilian areas in the Kyiv region. In Fastiv district, significant destruction was reported in both residential and industrial zones. Emergency crews extinguished a fire on the roof of a multi-story building and put out blazes in seven private garages. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in that area.
