Ukrainian Forces Strike Borisoglebsk Airbase in Russia’s Voronezh Region

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces, supported by other units of the Defense Forces, have carried out a strike on the Borisoglebsk military airbase located in Russia’s Voronezh region. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported the operation on July 5.

According to military officials, the targeted facility serves as a base for Russian combat aircraft, including Su-34, Su-35S, and Su-30SM fighter jets. These aircraft types are actively used by Russia in attacks on Ukrainian territory, particularly with guided aerial bombs.

“A warehouse containing guided bombs, a training combat aircraft, and, reportedly, other aircraft were hit,” the statement from the General Staff reads. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.

The operation is part of an ongoing Ukrainian campaign aimed at degrading the Russian military’s strike capabilities, especially to protect Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure from further attacks.

“The Defense Forces are taking all necessary measures to weaken the Russian occupiers’ ability to strike civilian targets and to force Russia to end its armed aggression,” the General Staff added.

As of the time of publication, Russian officials had not issued any comments regarding damage to the Borisoglebsk airbase. Independent confirmation of the strike’s impact is currently unavailable.

The airbase, located about 130 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, has previously been regarded as a significant logistical hub for Russian air operations.
