Flooding in Texas kills at least 24, dozens still missing

On Friday, July 4, heavy rains caused the Guadalupe River in Texas to overflow its banks, flooding nearby communities and summer camps. According to local officials, at least 24 people were killed, and between 23 and 25 remain missing.

Search and rescue operations are underway, with emergency crews using boats and helicopters to reach stranded residents. The National Weather Service has declared a state of emergency in parts of Kerr County, located in south-central Texas.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, President Donald Trump was asked about federal assistance for the affected areas. “We’ll take care of them,” he said, referring to victims of the disaster.

Local authorities noted that there had been no time to issue evacuation orders, as the flooding developed rapidly and could not have been predicted in advance. Rescue operations are expected to continue through the weekend.
