US-EU Trade Confrontation Intensifies

The trade relationship between the United States and the European Union has entered a new stage of confrontation. Under the Trump administration, Washington sharply increased tariff measures, boosting revenue from duties by 131 percent, bringing collections to $127 billion. This escalation reflects the White House’s commitment to a more aggressive protectionist approach, aimed at shielding domestic industries from European competition.

The EU, for its part, has warned of possible retaliatory measures and called for dialogue to avoid a trade war. European officials argue that such policies undermine the foundations of global commerce and could backfire by limiting American companies’ access to foreign markets. Experts caution that while tariffs may temporarily boost budget revenues, they risk slowing overall economic growth, increasing consumer prices, and fueling tensions with longstanding allies.

Analysts emphasize that the next phase of this dispute will depend on how Brussels chooses to respond. If the EU adopts its own restrictive measures, the confrontation could evolve into one of the most serious trade conflicts of the decade.
