U.S. Tests Radar for Future Air Warfare

The US tested a radar for air combat in the wars of the future The American company Raytheon tested the LTAMDS (Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor) radar with a 360-degree circular view. During the test, the system successfully integrated with the Integrated Battle Command System and ensured the interception of the target by the PAC-3 MSE missile.

LTAMDS is equipped with three antenna arrays – a frontal and two auxiliary ones, which allows it to simultaneously track and engage a wide range of threats: drones, modern aircraft, ballistic, cruise and hypersonic missiles. The tests showed the high efficiency of the radar in a crowded combat space.

Tom Laliberty, President of Land & Air Defense Systems, noted that the LTAMDS circular view capabilities are designed to repel massive coordinated attacks, and growing international demand is stimulating the expansion of production. The system has already passed nine successful tests, received the status of an official US Army program and began deliveries abroad – in 2024, Poland became the first foreign customer. Raytheon currently produces eight LTAMDS per year and plans to increase production to 12 units annually.

The radar is compatible with existing Patriot investments, and its main antenna has more than double the power of current models. LTAMDS creates a new level of defense capability, providing high accuracy and readiness to meet future air combat threats.
