SpaceX successfully conducted the tenth test flight of StarshipOn 27 August 2025, SpaceX conducted the tenth test launch of the Starship spacecraft prototype. The rocket lifted off at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time (2:30 a.m. Moscow time) from Starbase in Texas.
During the mission, the spacecraft remained in the air for about an hour before splashing down in the Indian Ocean. According to the company, Starship managed to slow down, hover over the water and land gently on the surface, despite damage to its tail section. However, after splashing down, the spacecraft exploded.
This time, SpaceX did not aim for a controlled return of the booster to the launch pad. Instead, engineers focused on other tasks: in particular, eight Starlink communications satellite simulators were removed from the Starship’s cargo compartment, and the Raptor engine was successfully restarted. In addition, new improvements were tested to increase the reliability of the spacecraft during its return to Earth.
According to SpaceX representatives, the test was deemed successful and will allow the company to take another step towards creating a reusable space system for future missions to the Moon and Mars.
