A 35-year-old woman from Florida, Emely Martinez, has been arrested for allegedly performing dental procedures without a license. Martinez promoted herself on social media as a ‘smile makeover expert’ and offered veneer installation at prices far below market rates.
In licensed clinics, a single veneer typically costs between $900 and $1,500. Martinez charged only $2,500 for a full set of veneers, a price that attracted many clients who failed to verify her credentials. The outcome was disastrous: patients were left with damaged teeth, infections, and severe pain.
Martinez operated out of a shop in Pinellas Park, despite having no formal dental education or license. The scheme was uncovered this summer when several dissatisfied clients complained after suffering serious complications. Dentists later confirmed that the veneers had been attached with Krazy Glue, a common household adhesive unsuitable for medical use. One victim required emergency surgery. Martinez reportedly refused to issue refunds and denied responsibility.
“She is not licensed to put in veneers. She has no schooling to do veneers,” said Sergeant Windy Vater of the Pinellas Park Police Department. “In the state of Florida, you must be licensed to do any kind of dental work.”
Martinez was arrested on August 20. Investigators revealed that this was not her first offense: she had already been arrested in March of this year in another Florida county for unlicensed dental practices. She now faces charges of fraud and practicing dentistry without an active license.
Florida has seen similar cases before. Several years ago, Malachi Love-Robinson, an 18-year-old from West Palm Beach, was arrested for posing as a doctor and running a fake medical clinic.
