Spotify has introduced a “lossless” feature that lets you listen to music in high quality.
Previously, audio files were compressed for streaming, losing some details such as overtones, dynamics, and depth. Now files retain all the original information, providing high-resolution sound.
According to Spotify producer Jack Mason, lossless means that the sound for the listener is no different from the original file. The feature is already available for premium subscribers in more than 50 countries, including the UK and the US.
Spotify recommends listening to lossless via wired headphones or speakers, as well as via Wi-Fi, since the files have become larger, and Bluetooth does not yet support the required bandwidth.
You can enable the feature in four steps: go to your profile, open “Settings”, select “Media Quality” and activate lossless for Wi-Fi, mobile Internet, or downloaded tracks.
Social media users noted that the update “changes everything” for music lovers.
