A new world record for the largest eggplant was set in Pennsylvania. Farmer Eric Gunstrom grew a fruit weighing 3.969 kg with a girth of 78.7 cm, which was presented on August 19 at the Giant Eagle Market District. The result was confirmed by experts of the organization Great Pumpkin Commonwealth.
On the same day, Gunstrom presented another eggplant weighing 3.9 kg. Both fruits surpassed the previous record set in 2024 by a farmer from Iowa, Dave Bennett, whose eggplant weighed 3,778 kg.
“I felt like I won the Super Bowl! To do it twice in one day is incredible,” Gunstrom admitted.
According to the farmer, 2025 was difficult due to sharp changes in weather: a cold spring and a hot, humid summer with storms. Despite this, the plants withstood the conditions and produced record-breaking fruits.
Previous world leaders in the cultivation of large eggplants also include the British gardener Peter Glazebrook, who twice entered the Guinness Book of Records.
