A 48-year-old woman fell into an old, abandoned well containing snakes in the Chinese city of Quanzhou, where she spent almost two days.
The incident was reported by the South China Morning Post.
It occurred in early September when the woman was walking in a forest. She lost her balance and fell into the deep well, from which she could not climb out on her own.
Alarmed because the woman had not been in contact, her family reported her missing to the police the following day. A specialized search team from the rescue center was deployed. The woman was eventually located using a drone equipped with a thermal imaging camera.
The rescue operation lasted several hours and concluded after two days. The woman had been clinging to the slippery walls of the well. She was exhausted after spending more than 54 hours in the water.
After being rescued, the woman recounted that she had been bitten by mosquitoes and water snakes. Fortunately, the snakes were non-venomous.
“There were countless moments when I wanted to give up. But I thought of my 70-year-old mother, my 80-year-old father, and my daughter who had just started school. I couldn’t leave them,” the victim confessed.
She was rushed to the hospital for further treatment. The woman had two broken ribs. Her condition was assessed as stable.
