Macron Says France Could Recognize Palestinian State in June

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France is preparing to recognize a Palestinian state, potentially as early as June 2025. This move is expected to be formalized during a joint international conference with Saudi Arabia, scheduled to take place in New York.

“We must move forward toward recognition,” Macron stated. “That is why we will take this step in the coming months.”

The initiative is part of a broader diplomatic effort to revive the two-state solution and de-escalate tensions in the region. Macron emphasized that France, along with Saudi Arabia and other international partners, aims to coordinate mutual recognition efforts at the June conference.

Currently, nearly 150 countries worldwide recognize the State of Palestine, but many key Western nations—including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France—have not officially done so.

France’s potential recognition would represent a major policy shift and could have significant diplomatic consequences, particularly in its relations with Israel, which strongly opposes unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state.
