A private school has opened in Texas where Artificial Intelligence (AI) completely leads the lessons. Students attend for just two hours a day using AI applications, and instead of teachers, “guides” work in the classrooms, whose role is to motivate children and help them develop independence.
The Alpha School, a private institution in Texas, has begun operations with AI systems entirely replacing traditional teachers. Students manage their learning process independently through AI applications and spend only two hours a day on academics, according to CBS News.
The algorithms create individualized plans for mathematics, science, and reading, adapting to each child’s level. The adults, referred to not as teachers but as guides, merely help motivate the students and receive six-figure salaries for their work.
After lunch, students work on projects, study financial literacy, and the art of public speaking. The education is expensive—around $40,000 per year—yet the school is expanding rapidly: 16 campuses have already opened, and notable guests have included US Secretary of Education Linda McMahon.
Critics call the project an “experiment for the wealthy,” questioning whether AI can truly replace the vital, personal interaction with an educator. However, school founder Mackenzie Price is confident that such models represent the future: “When a child moves at their own pace, the effectiveness grows exponentially.”
Alpha is convinced that AI can educate children just as well as, and eventually better than, traditional teachers.
