French President Emmanuel Macron triggered a diplomatic stir after posting on social media his vision for resolving the conflict in Gaza. In a detailed tweet, Macron reiterated France’s support for a two-state solution and outlined the country’s official stance:
“Yes – to peace.
Yes – to Israel’s security.
Yes – to a Palestinian state without Hamas.”
He emphasized the need for the release of all hostages, a lasting ceasefire, immediate humanitarian aid, and a political resolution based on two states. Macron also highlighted an upcoming international conference in June as a potential turning point and called for unity and resistance to disinformation.
Yair Netanyahu, son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, responded harshly to Macron’s position, particularly to the mention of supporting a Palestinian state. Writing on the platform X (formerly Twitter), he reacted with a blunt message:
“F..Y!”
He continued sarcastically:
“Yes to the independence of New Caledonia! Yes to the independence of French Polynesia! Yes to the independence of Corsica! Yes to the independence of the Basque Country! Yes to the independence of French Guiana! Stop France’s neo-imperialism in West Africa!”
Yair Netanyahu’s outburst comes days after Macron also stated that France could recognize Palestinian statehood in the near future — a move Israel opposes.
