Apple has lost the first place in the ranking of the world’s most expensive companies to Microsoft…
Microsoft has once again become the most expensive company in the world, surpassing Apple. This change occurred against the background of a noticeable decline in the share price of Apple.
Apple’s stock declined by 23% over four sessions. At the close of trading, Apple’s market capitalization stood at $2.59 trillion. In comparison, Microsoft’s market capitalization reached $2.64 trillion, even though its stock price also declined. Third place on the list of the most expensive companies is occupied by Nvidia with a market capitalization of $2.35 trillion.
The shift in market leadership is largely due to Apple’s heavy reliance on Chinese manufacturing.
As of April 9, 2025, the US has imposed 104 percent tariffs on imports from China. Considering that about 90 percent of iPhones are made in China, this development poses serious problems for Apple. Attempts to diversify production by moving it to India and Vietnam have also run into obstacles: tariffs in these countries are 26 and 46% respectively. Analysts predict that higher tariffs could force Apple to raise the prices of its products to offset the additional costs.
It is not the first time Microsoft has held the title of the most expensive company in the world. In the summer of 2024, Microsoft briefly overtook Apple before being overtaken by Nvidia. The continued fluctuation between these tech giants underscores the dynamic nature of the industry and the impact of global economic policies on company valuations.
