Google has laid off several hundred employees across its Platforms and Devices division, which includes teams working on Android, Chrome, Pixel smartphones, Google Photos, Google One, Fitbit, and Nest.
The layoffs follow a voluntary exit program offered by the company earlier this year. According to a Google spokesperson, the restructuring is aimed at streamlining operations and improving efficiency after internal team consolidations in 2024.
Despite the cuts, Google says it remains focused on advancing its core products and expanding its investments in artificial intelligence.
The decision reflects broader trends across the tech industry, where major firms are recalibrating after years of rapid expansion and shifting priorities toward AI development.
