Ford Recalls Nearly 274,000 SUVs Over Front Brake Line Defect

Ford Motor Company is recalling 273,991 vehicles in the United States due to a potential defect in the front brake lines that could increase the risk of a crash. The recall affects specific 2022–2024 model year Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The issue stems from the front brake lines possibly coming into contact with the engine air cleaner outlet pipe. This contact can cause the brake line to wear over time, potentially leading to a leak in brake fluid and a reduction in braking performance.

Ford began investigating the problem in February 2025 after noticing a rise in warranty claims involving brake performance on 2022 model year Lincoln Navigators. The company traced the root of the issue to the placement of the air cleaner outlet pipe, which could shift under certain driving conditions. A production fix was implemented in November 2024.

As of mid-April 2025, Ford had identified at least two customer complaints and one report of property damage potentially linked to the defect, though no crashes or injuries have been confirmed.

Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail beginning May 26. Ford dealers will inspect the brake lines and engine air cleaner outlet pipe, and will replace or reposition components as necessary — all at no cost to the customer.

This recall is the latest in a series of safety-related actions by U.S. automakers under heightened regulatory scrutiny. Ford has urged customers to contact their dealer or visit the NHTSA’s recall portal to determine if their vehicle is affected.
