Microsoft has announced plans to lay off approximately 9,000 employees as part of a new phase of organizational restructuring aimed at improving operational efficiency. According to a company spokesperson, the move will affect less than 4% of Microsoft’s global workforce.
This marks the second significant round of layoffs by the tech giant in 2024. In May, the company reduced its workforce by around 6,000 employees, which accounted for about 3% of its global headcount.
The latest cuts are expected to impact various teams across different regions, as Microsoft continues to adapt to evolving market conditions. In a statement to Bloomberg, a company representative said, “We are making organizational changes that are necessary to align with our strategic priorities and position the company for long-term growth in a dynamic market.”
As of the end of June 2024, Microsoft employed approximately 228,000 people worldwide, including around 45,000 in sales and marketing roles.
