Britney Spears warned by authorities after lighting cigarette on flight

Pop star Britney Spears was involved in an incident aboard a private JSX flight from Cabo San Lucas to Los Angeles on May 23, 2025, after reportedly drinking alcohol and lighting a cigarette mid-flight. Sources familiar with the matter said the singer complied with flight attendants’ requests to extinguish the cigarette but appeared “difficult” during the journey.

Upon landing at LAX, authorities met the aircraft and issued Spears a formal warning. No charges were filed, and she was allowed to leave without further intervention. The airline, JSX, declined to comment on the situation, and Spears’ representatives did not respond to media inquiries.

The incident has sparked renewed public concern about the singer’s mental health. Spears has been under increased media scrutiny since the end of her 13-year conservatorship in 2021, with supporters and mental health advocates questioning the adequacy of the support system around her.

As of May 24, Spears has not made any public comment regarding the flight.
