British pop singer Jessie J, 37, announced on June 3, 2025, that she has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. The singer shared the news in a candid video posted to her Instagram account, stating that she plans to undergo surgery following her scheduled performance at Capital’s Summertime Ball in London on June 15.
In the video, Jessie J, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, emphasized the importance of early detection, saying, “Cancer sucks in any form, but I’m holding on to the word ‘early’.” She revealed that she had been undergoing medical tests over the past two months and decided to share her diagnosis publicly to process the news and connect with others facing similar challenges. “I just wanted to be open and share it,” she said. “I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories.”
Maintaining her characteristic humor, Jessie joked about the situation, referring to her upcoming surgery as “a very dramatic way to get a boob job.” She added, “I’m getting to keep my nipples, that’s good.”
The singer’s announcement comes shortly after the release of her singles “No Secrets” in April and “Living My Best Life” in May. She acknowledged the irony of the timing, noting that the songs were planned before her diagnosis. In her Instagram caption, she quipped about a potential remix titled “Living My Breast Life,” adding, “All jokes aside (You know it’s one of the ways I get through hard times) This last … alongside it on the sidelines has given me the most incredible … .”
Jessie J has been open about her health struggles in the past, including a heart condition diagnosed in childhood, a minor stroke at 18, temporary hearing loss in 2020, Ménière’s disease, OCD, ADHD, and a miscarriage in 2021. She gave birth to her son, Sky Safir Cornish Colman, in 2023.
Following her announcement, fans and fellow artists expressed their support. Singer Rita Ora commented, “You’re literally my favorite person and I’m praying for you. You’ve got this.” TV presenter Gaby Roslin wrote, “Sending you so … .”
Jessie J is scheduled to perform at Capital’s Summertime Ball at Wembley Stadium on June 15 before taking a temporary break from public appearances to focus on her recovery.
