Trace Cyrus, brother of pop star Miley Cyrus and former frontman of the band Metro Station, has publicly criticized Katy Perry, accusing her of emulating his sister’s career trajectory. In a candid Instagram video posted on April 18, 2025, Trace labeled Perry and her team as “lame” and alleged that they attempted to replicate Miley’s successful strategies to rejuvenate Perry’s waning popularity.
“I first knew Katy Perry and her team were lame as f*** when her career was first dying,” Trace stated in the video. He mocked the idea that Perry’s team decided to mimic Miley’s transformation, saying, “She cut her hair off and it broke the internet… We should do that with you, Katy.” Trace highlighted similarities between Miley’s 2012 blonde pixie cut and Perry’s 2017 hairstyle change, suggesting it was a deliberate attempt to mirror Miley’s image.
Beyond appearance, Trace criticized Perry’s musical collaborations, drawing parallels between Miley’s work with artists like Mike WiLL Made-It, Wiz Khalifa, and Juicy J, and Perry’s 2017 track “Bon Appétit” featuring Migos. He insinuated that Perry’s team tried to replicate Miley’s ventures into hip-hop and EDM genres, but claimed these efforts “didn’t f***ing work” and were “backfiring.”
Trace also addressed Perry’s recent participation in an all-female Blue Origin spaceflight, suggesting it was another failed attempt to stay relevant. He concluded his rant by urging Perry to “stop” these endeavors, emphasizing that they are not yielding the desired success.
As of now, neither Katy Perry nor Miley Cyrus has publicly responded to Trace’s comments.
