In a whimsical celebration of blue-faced nostalgia, the French town of Landerneau in Brittany became the scene of a world-record-breaking event as more than 3,000 people dressed as Smurfs gathered to set a new Guinness World Record.
Participants arrived in full Smurf attire — complete with blue face paint, white hats, and white trousers — transforming the town into a real-life Smurf Village. The event, held on May 21, 2025, surpassed the previous record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Smurfs, which was held by a German town since 2019.
Organizers emphasized the festive and inclusive spirit of the gathering. Attendees included families, tourists, and Smurf enthusiasts of all ages. The celebration featured music, parades, and Smurf-themed food stands.
“We wanted to do something joyful and light-hearted for the community and to put our town on the map,” said one of the event organizers. Guinness World Records officials were on site to verify the count and awarded the certificate at the end of the day.
Landerneau, known for its cultural festivals and vibrant community life, now adds a playful new chapter to its history — officially becoming the world’s smurfiest town.
