A new Google study has revealed that 90% of IT specialists are already using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in their work, primarily for generating and editing code.
According to a new study from Google’s DORA division, the vast majority of employees in technology companies are applying AI in their daily work, primarily for writing and editing code. The survey included 5,000 specialists worldwide, with 90% of respondents confirming AI use, a 14% increase from the previous year.
Google is actively integrating AI into its products: from free tools to paid services costing $45 a month, which help automate tasks and generate code. According to Ryan J. Salva, the Head of Gemini Code Assist, “the vast majority of teams at Google are already using AI”—from preparing documentation to built-in support in code editors.
However, specialists’ trust in AI results is limited: only 20% completely trust the code created by algorithms, 46% are cautious about it, and 30% claim that AI has not impacted their work quality.
The rising popularity of AI has coincided with difficulties for young programmers. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, the unemployment rate for IT graduates in the US is higher than for humanities graduates, and the number of job openings on the Indeed platform has fallen by 71% from February 2022 to August 2025.
Experts note that the key aspects of development will remain with humans, and AI will primarily simplify routine tasks. “Software development is like the fashion industry. Everyone is chasing the new trend,” Salva emphasized, adding that part of the increased interest in AI is due to the hype surrounding the topic.
