If the Earth’s rotation accelerated so much that a day lasted only two hours, the planet would face catastrophic changes. According to experts, the oceans would spill out to the equator, flooding coastal areas, tsunamis and hurricanes would intensify, and tectonic plates would begin to move faster, causing a series of powerful earthquakes.
In addition, the centrifugal force could exceed gravity, and objects would literally begin to break away from the surface. Disruption of circadian rhythms would lead to severe physiological and psychological problems in people, and the usual timekeeping system would be useless.
Scientists emphasize that such a scenario is impossible in reality, but even small changes in the Earth’s rotation are already reflected in the tides, weather phenomena and biorhythms.
