The Australian government said on Sunday it would spend $8 billion to upgrade its shipyards for a future fleet of nuclear submarines.
Defence Minister Richard Marles said “very significant” investment would be made over a decade to rebuild the shipbuilding and repair complex in Perth, Western Australia.
The government is investing in the Henderson defence precinct in Perth following the signing of the AUKUS agreement with the UK and the US in 2021 to arm its fleet with nuclear submarines.
