According to local authorities, a new shark incident occurred off the coast of the U.S. state of Florida, with an eight-year-old boy as the victim, as reported by ABC News.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office stated that the attack took place on September 1st at approximately 3 p.m. The boy was snorkeling near the shore when he was attacked by a shark, sustaining injuries to his lower leg.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital where he received necessary medical care. According to doctors, the victim’s life is not in danger, and his condition is listed as stable.
Florida is traditionally considered one of the regions with the highest number of shark attacks in the world. Experts link this to the warm climate, large number of tourists, and high activity of marine predators near the coast.
Local authorities reminded visitors to be cautious when swimming and diving and to pay attention to warnings from lifeguards and the Coast Guard.
