Beijing has sharply criticised US President Donald Trump’s proposal for NATO to impose tariffs of up to 100% on Chinese goods, warning that such measures would only deepen global divisions.
The move, proposed by Trump as leverage over China’s ties with Russia during the war in Ukraine, has drawn a sharp denial from Chinese officials.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said the country does not engage in wars and rejects the use of sanctions as a diplomatic tool. He has argued that confrontation and economic pressure only exacerbate conflicts rather than resolve them.
Stressing Beijing’s commitment to peace and stability, he has called for dialogue as a path to progress.
