A new, large-scale unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), designed with a “flying wing” aerodynamic layout, has been photographed in China. Images of the drone appeared at the Changchun Air Show venue, which will take place from September 19 to 23.
According to media reports, the aircraft is equipped with two jet engines, and its body bears the logo of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, indicating the involvement of scientific institutions in its development. Based on its construction, this appears to be a prototype rather than a mock-up.
The drone features several elements consistent with stealth design, including recessed exhaust nozzles, specially shaped air intakes, and a “chine” along the leading edge of the fuselage. However, rivets and bumps are visible on the body, which could reduce the effectiveness of its stealth capabilities.
Experts note that China continues to actively develop its “flying wing” UAV lineup, which includes strike drones and high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft. This new prototype could be a part of that program, though its final configuration is not yet known.
