The 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature will be awarded to Hungarian writer László Krasznahorkai.
‘For his compelling and insightful writing, which in times of apocalyptic horror reaffirms the power of art,’ the press release said.
László Krasznahorkai is the author of epic works in the Central European tradition, characterised by absurdism and grotesque excess. He also turns his attention to the East in his works. As noted by the committee, the author takes a more contemplative and subtly calibrated tone.
Among the most famous works by the writer, who was born in 1954 in the town of Döla, is the novel Satanic Tango. It was a literary sensation in Hungary and a breakthrough in the author’s career.
The Hungarian writer has won awards such as the International Booker Prize. He recently admitted that he wanted to write only one book and then pursue other creative endeavours, such as music.
