NASA’s Perseverance rover has taken a picture of the surface of the Red Planet, showing a rock that resembles a turtle poking its head out of its shell. This is reported by Live Science.
The unusual image was obtained on August 31, on Sol 1610, the rover’s Martian day of operation. The SHERLOC and WATSON instruments were used to take the picture, scanning the rock in the visible and ultraviolet spectrum.
The rock resembles a turtle thanks to its “head” with two “eyes” protruding from the “shell”, as well as its outlines resembling front paws. Scientists cannot yet explain exactly what geological process led to the formation of this shape.
Such finds are not uncommon: Mars rovers often record stones whose shape resembles earthly objects or animals, which is associated with the peculiarities of geological processes and human perception.
