British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the two years since Hamas attacked Israel on 7 October 2023, sparking the war in Gaza, have been a ‘living nightmare’ for many.
‘Today marks two years since the horrific attacks by Hamas terrorists on Israel on 7 October 2023… This is the worst attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust,’ Starmer said in a statement.
‘Since that terrible day, so many have lived through a real nightmare,’ he said, promising to continue efforts to bring home British hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.
Starmer notes that there has been a surge in anti-Semitism in the UK during this period, including a terrorist attack on a synagogue in Manchester that killed two Jews.
‘Jewish communities have also faced a rise in anti-Semitism on our streets,’ including a deadly car and knife attack last Thursday in Manchester, which occurred on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
‘This is a stain on us, and our country will always stand united and resolute against those who wish harm upon Jewish communities,’ the British leader said.
