European Union officials have warned that Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s potential attendance at the May 9 military parade in Moscow could impact Serbia’s EU accession process.
Estonian Foreign Ministry Secretary General Jonatan Vseviov stated: “We need to make sure they understand that decisions come with costs. The consequence is that they will not enter the European Union.”
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said: “Any participation in the May 9 parade or celebrations in Moscow will not be taken lightly on the European side, considering that there is indeed a wider war taking place in Europe.”
Serbia has not officially confirmed whether President Vučić will attend the parade.
Serbia applied for EU membership in 2009 and was granted candidate status in 2012.
